7 Easy Ways to Fix a Bad Hair Day At Work

You know when you get to your office, and you absolutely hate your hair, and the worst thing about it is that you'll be stuck with it all day? Here's how to fix all of those bad hair days.

Bad Hair Day Scenario #1: You have textured hair that was in proper shape before you left your apt, but now you're at work and it has frizzed up.

Pro Advice: "The thing with curly hair is that when it's dry you can't fix it, so you have to wet it in order to restyle it," says Gardner Edmunds, a NYC-based celebrity stylist who works with Lea Michele, Kelly Ripa, and a ton of other A-listers. "At work, you'll want to keep a conditioning spray nearby, which dampens the hair and resets the curl without making it look frizzy." Edmunds suggests spraying one like Living Proof No Frizz Restyling Spray onto hair, and then, using your pointer finger, reforming the curl to tame any flyways and bring it back to its solid curl pattern. "Repeat as necessary and let it air dry," he says.

Bad Hair Day Scenario #2: You have fine hair that started out voluminous-looking in your bathroom, but an hour or so before your big meeting it fell flat.

Pro advice: "Keep a travel-size dry texturizing spray, like Oribe's, in your bag at all times," he says. "To give yourself a boost of body, flip your hair over and spray it everywhere, but mainly concentrating it on your roots. Not only will it help to soak up any oil on your scalp that is causing your hair to fall flat, it will also add instant volume."

Bad Hair Day Scenario #3: You have a really polished, straight, sleek-looking style going on at home, but by the time you get to work you have a kink in your hair from putting it behind your ear or being tucked into your coat collar.

Pro advice: "There really isn't a magic trick for getting your hair straight again once it has a bend in it," says Edmunds. "But you can keep a mini flat iron in your desk drawer, so that you can flatten out any kinks you have in your hair before a big meeting." Try the Amika Mighty Mini Ceramic Styler.

Bad Hair Day Scenario #4: Your hair kind of holds a curl, but you want to make sure your ringlets definitely last longer.

Pro advice: "In order for your curls to stay curled longer, you have to set them in a curl pattern as they cool," explains Edmunds. "So, to lock in your style, curl your entire head, and then apply a lightweight hairspray onto your hair. Next, divide your hair down the center from your hairline to the nape of your neck as if you were about to create pigtails. Then, twist each side away from your face, securing them each in a bun behind your ears using a few bobby pins. Finally, when you get to work, let your down and shake it out — this way you avoid have a bad hair day from the start. However, if your hair starts to lose its curl midday, revert back to the bun trick, and then spray your hair with an aerosol hairspray to set the look."

Bad Hair Day Scenario #5: You've commuted to work, finally are in the office, and have major static.

Pro advice: Anytime you have a static charge, you have to neutralize it. To do so, Edmunds suggests rubbing a pea-sized dollp of serum — like Aveda Light Elements Smoothing Fluid — in the palm of your hands, and applying it from the middle of your hair to the ends. Or, try spraying the inside of your hat and scarf with Static Guard he suggests. "This is especially important to do with bangs, since you don't want them sticking straight up," he says. If you have oily, static-y hair, don't use a serum. Instead, try a light-hold hairspray ilke Aveda Air Control. And remember, the worst thing for static-plagued hair is brushing it, so avoid that at all costs when static strikes.

Bad Hair Day Scenario #6: Your hair turns oily around 4 p.m. after you've played with it all day.

Pro advice: "Spray a dry shampoo onto your roots and brush it through, so that it coats your hair at the roots and soaks up the oil on your scalp," says Edmunds. And if your hair is so oily you have to put it up, apply dry shampoo and then pull your hair into a polished French twist. Then, hit it with some hairspray — the alcohol it contains will help soak up any oil on the rest of your strands whole providing hold. Try PSSSST! Instant Spray Shampoo.

Bad Hair Day Scenario #7: You have wavy hair that falls flat midday.

Pro advice: "Whether your hair is naturally wavy or if you've gotten a body wave (aka perm) recently, keep a salt spray in your bag to revive your waves around 2 p.m.," says Edmunds. "Apply it all over your hair, and then twist it into a bun and let it dry — this will reinvigorate your wave. You can also spray the same product on your hair and scrunch it up from ends to roots, using your hands and holding it for a few seconds when you get closer to your roots. The heat form your palm will help activate the salt spray, allowing it to restyle your waves." Try L'OrĂ©al Paris Ever EverStyle Texture Series Beach Wave Spray.
