How To Contour Your Face?

Models, actresses, and celebrities (such as Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian) are frequently exalted for their beautiful, chiseled faces. But did you know that many of these gorgeous women rely on beauty secrets (like makeup contouring) to create the illusion of a thinner, more sculpted face? This easy to follow beauty tutorial shows you how to do makeup contouring in three steps.

1. Highlight

Before using foundation, apply concealer to your face in the following areas: in an upside-down triangle shape underneath your eyes, along the bridge of your nose, and above the cupid’s bow of your mouth. This will act as a highlighter for your face, which enables the natural light to bounce off those areas, making them more prominent.

2. Contour

After applying concealer and foundation, using a matte bronzer or contouring powder (about two shades darker than your foundation color), sweep this darker color across the hollows of your cheeks (it helps to suck-in your cheeks while doing this). Then sweep the bronzer below your jawline, under your chin, and along the perimeter of your forehead. This helps make these areas appear to recede, creating a more chiseled, defined look to your cheekbones and jawline. If you want to minimize the appearance of your nose, you can also use a small brush to dust the contouring powder down the sides of your nose (which makes it appear more narrow) and underneath the tip of your nose (making it look shorter).

3. Blush

Make sure to thoroughly blend all the face makeup (concealer, foundation, bronzer or contouring powder) you’ve just applied with a makeup brush. As a final touch, sweep blush onto the apples of your cheeks. This helps bring the whole look together. Voila! In three easy steps, you’ve created the look of a thinner, more sculpted face by using makeup contouring techniques.

The Right Way To Cover Up Under Eye Circles

Usually dark circles come with some form of puff. The problem comes when you cover just the dark circle under your eye. Aside from the risk of looking like you’ve been wearing tanning bed goggles you have to deal with the concealer actually bringing out and drawing attention to your bags…but you don’t want the dark stuff to show either! What to do?!

Let me suggest applying the concealer in a pie piece under your eye instead. This way you cover the darkness and create a little arrow direction the attention right to your eyes and evening out your cheek in the meantime. Total life saver. Try it with a yellow based concealer like THIS ONE (if it feels heavy, mix it with a little moisturizer)

The Complete Lipstick Guide for Redheads

We’re often asked what makeup will work if you have red hair. Honestly, since red hair is just so “in” right now, probably half of you at this point have dyed your hair red. We don’t exactly like to play by the rules — if you want to try a particular makeup color, try it! Obviously there are certain shade guidelines that you should keep in mind with this, but everyone by now should know the whole silver and gold jewelry trick (if silver looks better on you, you’re cool toned and vice versa).

With that said, once you know if you’ve got a “cool” or “warm” complexion, it’s still not the easiest thing to know if a shade goes well with your hair, makeup and everything else. So, we’ve pulled a few of our favorite redheads for guidance. Read on below for examples and inspiration!

Jayma Mays may be our favorite OCD guidance counselor on “Glee,” but she definitely likes to play outside the box when it comes to real life. She paired her white dress with a bright pink lip — not something that many redheads would be brave enough to do. This look works for her though since she was very subtle with the blush (just a slight, natural flush) and still made sure to play up her lashes. Another thing to note here is that Mays’ hair is a very light, coppery red shade so it doesn’t overpower the lip color.

Emma Stone, quite possibly one of the main reasons everyone is goes gaga over red hair, looks stunning with a wine-stained lip. She completed the look with a thick cat eye and a faint amount of blush as well. Again, her hair has an auburn tone to it so it compliments the deep lip color — although this deep color would be a good contrast to many redheads.

Bryce Dallas Howard showcases a great example of how to do coral with red hair. Her hair is actually extremely dark in this image, but the way she tried a coral lipstick and matched it with coral blush (and a pink dress) shows that it’s a gorgeous complement to deep auburn hair.

Christina Hendricks is never afraid to experiment with makeup, and she showcases one of the biggest fears for redheads: red lipstick. This shows that you can definitely try a bold and vibrant red even if your hair is just that. Do be careful of matching your lipstick color to your hair though!

6 Simple Ways to Prevent Crow’s Feet

Crow's feet, laughter lines, wrinkles... it doesn't matter what you call them, they are one of the earliest signs of ageing that appear on our skin.

Although the first and finest of these lines may in fact add a little character to the face, like the first grey hairs, they are likely to strike terror in our hearts when we notice them.

As with so many of these beauty issues, there is no charm that will ward them off forever, and no miracle cure once they appear, but we can at least try and develop good habits that won't encourage them, or make them worse once they start to form.

Remember that crow's feet appear around the eyes, where the skin is thin and delicate. And, to a great extent, it's the eyes that hold the key to keeping them at bay. If you treat your eyes right and avoid straining them and scrunching them up to see, you won't be encouraging the wrinkles to form in the first place. So, remember these six points:

1. Annual visits to the optician will ensure you have the right glasses or contact lenses and should minimise the need to peer at things with screwed up eyes. If you're getting new glasses, make sure you take time to choose ones that suit you and that you're comfortable with: if you end up with a pair you don't like, it'll be tempting not to use them.
2. Sun glasses are also important. Good quality lenses in green, grey or brown are best, and large lenses give more protection to the eyes. They serve a double purpose as they protect your eyes from UV radiation and also stop you squinting in the bright sunlight.
3. If you work for long periods at a computer, invest in one of the more modern screens or use a screen filter, and reduce the brightness of the display. Make sure you rest your eyes regularly: take five minutes out each hour, look away from the screen, blink rapidly a few times and look out of the window, if possible at a distant horizon. If your eyes get dry, use drops.
4. Watch television in daylight, rather than in a dark room, as it puts less strain on the eyes, and try and avoid refections on the screen. Although sitting close up may not cause permanent damage to your eyes, it will make them tired and that can make you start scrunching them up again, so watch where you choose to sit.
5. If you read e-books, you'll need to watch the light conditions, too. It will depend on whether you have a reader that uses e-ink, or a tablet with full colour screen as to where it's best to read it: just remember that if you're straining your eyes, you're encouraging those crow's feet.
6. We all know cigarettes are bad for our general health, but smoking also has a two-fold effect that can encourage crow's feet. First, the nicotine destroys the collagen and elastin in the skin, leaving it lifeless and less pliable, so it's less able to recuperate from any damage. Secondly, though, when you smoke, or spend time in a smoky atmosphere, there's a tendency to squint against the tobacco smoke, which, once again, encourages the crow's feet to develop.

How to use a diffuser to get gorgeous curls!

A diffuser is a large, round, vented attachment that affixes directly to a hand-held electric hair dryer. Its purpose is to distribute heat and air flow more gently and prevent poof and frizz. Diffusers are ideal for colored, dyed, salon- or home-permed hair, or even naturally curly locks.

Diffusers may be used to style short, medium or long curly hair.

Try these seven simple steps, using a diffuser, to style casual or glamorous curly hair.

1. Start in the Shower

Begin by shampooing and conditioning as usual. (Choose products particularly suited for curly or wavy hair.) In the shower, comb conditioner through hair gently with a wide-toothed comb before rinsing.

2. Towel-Scrunch Wet Hair

Still standing in the shower, grab a fluffy towel and scrunch hair gently to remove excess moisture.

3. Apply Hair Styling Products

Squirt a small amount of hair gel (in warmer months) or hair mousse (in colder months) into one palm. Be sure to use hair styling products sparingly, so hair does not become crunchy and heavy.

Rub hands together, and use fingertips to apply hair product to roots of hair. Gently mix product into the rest of the hair. Bunch, crunch and scrunch locks to encourage wavy curls.

4. Use a Diffuser

Place the diffuser attachment on the hand-held electric hair dryer. Adjust the blow dryer to low or medium heat and air flow settings when using the diffuser.

Bend at the waist, so hair falls away from the head. Use the diffuser to lift and dry hair, while scrunching locks with the spare hand. For best results in styling curly hair, place the diffuser prongs directly on the scalp (or as close as possible), and move in gentle, circular motions while drying to add maximum volume.

5. Start at the Roots

Always begin at the scalp when styling curly hair with a diffuser, so the roots will dry first and the ends of the hair will be exposed to minimal heat.

6. Spritz or Spray

Once curly hair is dry and bouncy, add a light misting of hair spray or spritz to hold body.

7. Ban the Brush

Never brush curly hair, and avoid excessive combing, which can ruin all-over curls and body.

After styling, use fingers to re-scrunch and add volume if needed. If curly hair seems to flatten or wilt, a light water spritz may be applied before re-scrunching. (Do not add more hair products after styling, as these will simply weigh down the hair and reduce body and curls.)

All-over curls can be super styles for those with wavy, full-bodied or permed tresses. A simple diffuser and a bit of scrunching is all that it takes.

Coconut Oil Hair Mask Treatment

It's no secret that I'm in love with about five single-ingredient products: coconut oil, chia seeds, bee pollen, witch hazel, and coffee.

Anyway, back to coconut oil. I literally use coconut oil for everything. EVERYTHING. Frying, baking, spreading, facial moisturizer, body lotion, after-sun care, nutritional supplement, hand cream. One of my favorite coconut oil uses, though, is as a hair mask. I have really fine hair. When it's healthy, it shines like crazy. But, when it's dried out, it's crunchy and frizzy. Not pretty wavy and textured, but crunchy (I know you know what I mean...).

Here's how it works:
  1. Start with an unrefined coconut oil. It'll be a solid in the tub, but will quickly melt in your hand.
  2. After your shower at night, take between a teaspoon and a tablespoon-sized glob in your fingers, depending on the length of your hair.
  3. Work quickly to massage it through your hair. You'll want to make sure you've covered all the way from your roots to your ends. Use extra oil, if needed.
  4. Find a way to pull your hair up and back so it's not flopping around.
  5. Sleep with your hair this way (use a shower cap, if you are worried about greasing up your pillowcase).
  6. In the morning, wash and condition your hair as usual. When your hair dries, it'll be super silky, shiny, and soft! For me, it lasts about a week in turbo hair mode and then starts to wear off.
  7. Depending on your particular hair type, repeat every week to two weeks, as needed.

6 Ways to Get Rid of Puffy Eyes

It’s always hard to wake up in the morning. We lay in bed a few extra minutes as our alarms go off. Getting enough sleep is important, but sometimes we just can’t help but want to sleep in. I’m not a huge fan of feeling sleepy, and most of all I’m not a huge fan of looking sleepy. I found some useful tips on how to look awake and not to mention how to look beautiful in the mornings!

Wash Your Face With Cold Water
When using a good face wash in the morning, wash your face with cold water. I know, sometimes it can be a little hard to do but it will help awaken your skin! Cold water helps blood flow and tightens your pores, making your skin look fresh and bright.

Place Your Moisturizer In The Freezer
Try finding moisturizers that have chilled skin care. Place them in your refrigerator at night and let it sit. When you wake up in the morning, wash your face and apply your moisturizer. Your new cool products will help reduce puffiness and swelling making your skin look new and bright!

Say Goodbye To Puffy Eyes
Some of us wake up with puffy eye’s, in the morning, at least I do especially during allergy season. If you have swollen eyes in the morning try this common tip that works miracles, teabags! Boil water and place a teabag in a cup (as if you were making tea to drink) Place the tea in freezer until the tea is very cold. Once it’s to the perfect temp, rise out the water from the teabag and place them over your eyes for a few minutes. It’s so soothing and you will see a huge difference with the swelling and puffiness!

Concealer
Concealer is the first makeup I use when I look tired and worn out. It helps even out uneven skin and hides dark circles under my eyes. Get rid of any signs of tiredness by applying concealer!

Bronzer and Blush
Adding a good bronzer to your face will give it a healthy glow and adding blush will help make your skin look bright and healthy! Adding these tips to your daily makeup routine will erase signs of a restless night.

Simple makeup: I should start doing this...because I know I wear too much..and I need to use less!!

Use neutral colors: If you're going for the "barely there" look, choose neutral colors that will compliment your skin tone. While it's true that purple shadows bring out hazel eyes and greens bring out brown eyes, keep things looking natural with shades of tan, brown and cream for shadows. When it comes to blush, go for peaches and roses, or the color your cheeks naturally become when you're flushed.

Mix bronzer with your moisturizer: To get a sun-kissed look without looking like you added anything to your skin, mix a liquid bronzer in with your usual face lotion to dilute the color and help it spread easily.

Blend, blend, blend: Obvious as it may sound, blending your makeup can make or break a look. The key to a great smokey eye is blending the shadow, the secret to using highlighter is blending in the product and nothing can ruin a look more than a visible line of foundation on your jawline. With each step of your makeup routine, blend your makeup, then blend once more just for good measure.

Apply a primer: The benefits of a primer are twofold. First, a primer will help your makeup to look smooth and clean, not caked on or uneven. Second, when you apply primer to your eyelids, you cut way down on the likelihood of any creasing that can happen with your shadow.

Choose a lip color two shades deeper: For the ladies who won't leave the house without something on their lips, keep things looking natural with a lip stain or tint that's two shades deeper than your natural color for a "just kissed" look. When you're going for an au naturel lip, avoid waxy lipsticks or dark shades.

Groom your brows: Eyebrow pencil, when used, should be two to three shades lighter than your actual brow color. Before you apply pencil, make sure your eyebrows have been groomed, whether that mean shaped, tweezed or waxed. Nothing takes the attention away from a pretty face like ungroomed eyebrows.

Avoid mascara clumps and flakes: First and foremost, if your mascara is more than three months old, you need to ditch the tube in favor of a fresh one. Old mascara gets dried out, causing clumps, flakes and sometimes even infection. Curl your eyelashes before applying mascara for a good, natural base, then apply by shaking the wand at the root of the eyelashes and brushing up and out. For a more natural look, apply just one coat. To take things a step further, use a brown or clear formula instead of black. Your lashes will look great, but no one will be able to tell why.

Use the correct concealer color: When concealing trouble spots like dark circles or pimples, using the right kind of concealer is crucial. Avoid orange, "fake tan" colors of concealer. Use yellow-toned concealer for redness or dark circles, lavender concealer for yellowish skin or extremely dark circles and green concealer for pimples or other red spots.

How To Make A Sexy Side Bun

It's sexy, it's versatile and it's actually pretty easy to do. Follow these simple steps to create a chic side bun in your own hair.

Step one:
Part your hair to one side – your part should start directly above the middle of the eyebrow on whichever side you choose to part it.

Step two:
Pull all your hair around behind your head over to the same side that you parted it on – pin it in place at the back of the head to keep it to that side.

Step three:
Using a fine-tooth comb, back comb the hair to give it body – you can go a bit nuts here and don’t worry about how messy it gets.

Step four:
Using a brush, brush the surface of the hair lightly to smooth it down – don’t brush to hard and remove all the teasing you have just done. Re-pin the hair to the side.

Step five:
There are two ways you can create the bun;
  1. For an easy quick side ‘do’ simply pull the hair through the elastic as per usual and on the last pull through, leave the base of the pony tail in the elastic so the hair creates a loop.
  2. The other option is to freestyle it and create a bun from scratch by twisting and pinning the hair into the shape of your choice.

It's up to you how messy or tidy you want the bun to be - either way you'll need just a touch of hairspray to keep it in place.

6 Tricks For Clear Skin

We all have them. The stubborn, annoying, unwanted little demons named blackheads. There are a million remedies and tips out there that claim to perfect your skin from the pesky blackheads that come our way. After trying and testing just about everything we could find, we’ve filtered out the bad to bring you the remedies for acne that will actually work. Here are some of our favorite tricks to rid your skin of the little devils and leave you with clear, glowing skin.

1. Exfoliate With Baking Soda.
By doing this, dull skin is buffed away by the microdermabrasion-sized particles of baking soda, getting rid of clogged pores that can lead to blackheads. Simply mix baking soda with water until a paste-like texture is formed. When done regularly, this will aid in ridding the skin of blackheads.

2. Pore Strips.
The unsung hero of blackhead-free skin, pore strips are a tale as old as time and it’s because they really work. Simply wet the area of skin you wish to treat, apply the strip and let it dry for 15 minutes. When you’re ready to peel it off, we suggest pulling it off like you would a bandage: Swiftly, and with as little pain as possible. What’s left behind in the strip will most likely gross you out, but it’s better to be on the strip than on your skin.

3. Clay Masks.
Masks that are clay-based draw out the impurities in our skin much like a suction cup. Think of clay as a magnet that draws out the blackheads in your skin. By regularly using a deep cleaning clay mask, you’ll start to see amazing results.

4. Salicylic and Glycolic Acid Are Your Friends.
Look for cleansers and toners with these acids on the ingredient labels. Salicylic acid is a lipophilic (attracted to fats/oils) and concentrates at the surface of the pore to dissolve the plugs. Consistent use will prevent the blackheads before they form and help clear existing pores. Glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid derived from sugar cane, helps clear dead skin and debris on the surface of skin. Together, this acidic team can tackle your blackhead problem.

5. Retinoids.
These babies are packed with vitamin A, which will work wonders for your skin. The retinoids attach to receptors in the skin to improve the way skin grows and sheds so that it is less likely to form acne. The outer skin layer then evens out while the dead layer of keratin material sheds more efficiently. Sometimes there is noticeable peeling but after regular use 3-7 times weekly for 4-6 weeks, the side effects lessen and the skin appears more radiant and clear. You can either use over-the-counter products or a prescription from your dermatologist.

6. Don’t Pick.
The worst thing your can do is pick at blackheads (or pimples in general). Let your skin care routine do its job! Even though it’s tempting to quickly get rid of them, picking at blackheads will only make the long-term situation worse.

10 Date Night Hairstyles

In general, first dates can be incredibly weird: from awkward to awesome to total flop, there’s a lot of inevitable stress leading up to the date itself. Where to go? What to do? What to order at dinner? What to wear? Is this too matchy matchy? What if I see an ex? We get it, dates can be nerve-wracking, which is why we’re giving you one less thing to worry about: your hair.

1. Bouffant:

Comb out your hair till they are free of tangles and straight. Now take the front part of the hair, raising it a little to create a puffed-up look, take it towards the back and pin tight. Let the remaining hair be loose.

2. Cinnamon Bun:

The cinnamon bun will go best with gowns, off-shoulders and backless dresses, as well as with the LBD. Comb hair neatly to remove all tangles. Bring it tightly back at the nape and start twisting the entire length, rolling it towards a bun as you do it. Once you’ve rolled in all the hair, secure it tightly with a bun fastener.

3. Classic Waves:

Waves are making a comeback after spells of simple straight hair. So if you have naturally wavy hair, great! But if you don’t you can always get some at home using your styling rods. Part hair on one side, leaving the top portion straight and natural. Style hair from middle to bottom in waves. Let some fall on one shoulder and pull the remaining to the back.

4. Wavy Braid:

Another great style for wavy hair: Comb hair with a side parting. Leaving the front hair loose, take some strands from just above the top of your ears or behind your ears and braid tightly. Now take this braid from one side of the head to the other and pin it in at the back. Let the remaining hair stay loose.

5. Half Updo:

The half-up hairdo is a great favourite and very simple to achieve. Comb hair neatly, preferably straight or in loose waves and part in the middle. Starting from the middle top, pull back hair in a slightly raised look, like a puff and pin at the back. Now take hair from the sides and bring it back to where you pinned the puffed hair. Leave the remaining hair open.

6. Braid Bun:

This will work best with straight hair. Part hair in the middle and on both sides, take the front strands and braid hair tightly. Bring both the braids at the back and pin their middle part together. Take the remaining parts of the braids and open the hair. Twist it in a bun that leaves the neck and shoulders bare.

7. Wavy Side Pony:

Style your hair in extreme waves and create a side parting. Now take some hair from the front and twist it tightly, bringing it back towards one side. Leave a few strands loose in the front to give a messy and relaxed look. Bring the remaining hair to the same side and tie it lightly around the ear. Bring the tied hair towards the front and let the waves show.

8. High Bun:

Iron out your hair to make them straight. Comb back tightly, pulling all the hair to the top of the head and secure this tightly. Now take the remaining hair and roll it in a tight high bun. Secure tightly.

9. Wavy Hair:

Create strong waves using your styling rod. Take a few strands from the sides and twist them back, pinning them behind your ears. Let the remaining hair loose.

10. Sleek Ponytail:

The sleek ponytail still continues to be on the high-fashion list internationally. Straighten hair with a straightening rod. Comb back tightly and pull it up high. Tie it up tightly.
