4 Beauty Uses for Grapefruit
4 Beauty Uses for Grapefruit |
There is no argument that consuming your daily requirement of greens can benefit your body, but fruits and vegetables have a place in your life far beyond eating. Plenty of fruits and veggies can be incorporated into your beauty routine to whiten your teeth, remove puffiness from your eyes and accomplish a list of other naturally beautifying tasks.
One fruit in particular, that offers more solutions than you’ll know what to do with, is the grapefruit. And it doesn’t hurt that this once forbidden fruit is in season right now, so for the next four months you can use the powers of a fresh grapefruit to combat some of your beauty concerns.
Don’t worry, there are products packed with grapefruit that can be used during the off months as well.
Fight Signs of Aging
I’ve covered the steps you need to take to prevent premature aging, but the retinol antioxidants within a grapefruit repair damaged skin, while also halting the development of fine lines. Apply a grapefruit facial mask once a week to see the greatest results – less discoloration, smooth texture and natural radiance.
- DIY: Mix 1 tablespoon honey, 1/2 a cup of oatmeal and juice from 1/2 of a grapefruit. Then apply to your face, let it dry and wipe clean with a damp wash cloth.
- Product: Éminence Organic Skincare Pink Grapefruit Clarifying Masque.
Combat Oily Skin
While a proper skin care routine is in order to fight back against a constantly oily face, you can use grapefruit’s natural astringent properties to clear toxins from your skin and halt oil production and acne. A face wash or toner is all you need to do the trick.
- DIY: Mix together fresh squeezed grapefruit juice with a small amount of fresh lavender or mint into a small spray or squeeze bottle and let it sit for 3 or more hours. Then apply with a cotton ball morning and night or spritz on as you would a store bought toner.
- Product: Malin + Goetz Face Cleanser or Aucocisco Naturals Citrus Astringent Toner.
Remove Buildup on Hair
With all of the products we use to achieve the perfect blow out, it is no wonder that over time our hair can seem damaged and dull. When chemicals from our water or styling products begin to weigh you down and threaten long-lasting hair color, it’s time to strip your strands. Grapefruit on your hair will banish the parabens and waxes that are leaving your locks limp. It will also brighten your color a teeny bit, almost giving you highlights.
- DIY: Wet your hair, then rinse your locks with 1 cup of grapefruit juice.
- Product: Kenra Clarifying Shampoo.
Protect Your Lips
Our lips need protection from the elements, from ourselves (from licking them too much) and from the products we wear. Using grapefruit essential oils on your lips can prep your pout for wearing dark lipstick, act as a barrier between your lips and the sun and nourish your delicate skin. Applying a lip balm daily with grapefruit as an ingredient is your ticket.
- DIY: Make your own lip balm with grapefruit extract, beeswax and a few other items. Try an excellent recipe for coconut and grapefruit lip balm, here.
- Product: Burt’s Bees Pink Grapefruit Lip Balm.
